Changes for 2017

Every time I film a tutorial I’m always trying/looking for ways to improve, if I’ve learnt anything so far it is that it takes time, patience and practice… just like building scale models.
As part of my goal of continued improvement with my YouTube channel and website I’ve decided to spend a few dollars to improve the environment I film in.

I managed to find some second hand office wall dividers and thought they would make a great backdrop to my set and as an added benefit I can easily pin up posters, photo backdrops or a fabric sheet to change the look of my background in the videos.
Overall I think they came out looking really good, the wall sections didn’t come with any feet so I simply cut some 42x19mm pine to create these legs. The wall dividers slide into position and they are actually quite secure.

I also made a hanging shelf that hangs down from the top of the divider, I will use this shelf to display dioramas and take photos. I can also add photo backdrops to the shelf so when the model is displayed I have a great looking and realistic background.
The whole set up for the feature wall cost about $230, the wall dividers costing the most at $50 each and the rest was in wood and black spray paint.

The studio where I film is in my garage, so unfortunately I share the space with the car!
However, with the way I have it set up I can easily back the car out of the garage, roll up my work bench, set up the lights and turn on the camera. I think I’ll be much more motivated to get out there and film many more videos for 2017.

I’m currently working on a video featuring a craft cutting machine to make coconut trees, I’m also working on a beach front scene using woodland scenics realistic water that will be a complete tutorial detailing the entire process and later on in the year I’ll be doing some artistic pieces using very large glass vases with small scenes built into them, also I'll be building an old mine diorama that will show mine shafts going deep down into the earth, imagine what you’d see looking at an ant farm… Basically a cross-section of an old gold mine.

So it looks like I'm going to have another busy year building models and filming tutorials for 2017.... And I'm really looking forward to it :)

Also, if you made it this far, I want to thank everyone who is subscribed to my YouTube channel and a very special thank you to my supporters on Patreon! Without your help and support I wouldn't be able to make these videos.

The new "set" looks great. I am eager to see the next tutorial.

Thanks for the projected projects. For your mine project I have mechanical drawings for 2' gauge gable ore cars made by El Paso Foundry I. 1925. Mount Isa Mines used these underground. I also have some MIM drawings of early QR wagons. I have access to hundreds of mining photos too.
If you need them let me know.
I admire your knowledge and craftsmanship.
